Terms of Service

The deal, in plain words

These Terms are the agreement between you and BlobChat. We kept them as short and human as we could — please read them before using the Service.

Last updated: October 12, 2026Effective: October 12, 2026Reading time: ~8 min

Free to use

Servers, channels, voice and direct messages are free — no subscriptions or paywalls.

Your content is yours

You keep ownership of what you post. You give us permission only to host and deliver it.

Be decent

Follow the Community Guidelines. Server owners moderate their spaces; we act on serious abuse.

01Accepting these Terms

By creating an account or using BlobChat — the website, web app, desktop and Android apps, and API (the "Service") — you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy and our Community Guidelines. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

02Who can use BlobChat

  • You must be at least 13 years old, or older if your country requires it for using online services without parental consent.
  • If you are under the age of majority, your parent or guardian must agree to these Terms on your behalf.
  • You may not use the Service if we have previously banned you or if the law forbids you from using it.

03Your account

  • Keep your password, backup codes and bot tokens secret. You are responsible for activity on your account.
  • We strongly recommend two-factor authentication or a passkey. Without an email address, a lost password may be unrecoverable.
  • Do not sell, rent or share accounts, and do not create accounts in bulk or with automation (bots must use the official bot API).
  • Your username can be changed once every 7 days; we may reclaim usernames that impersonate others or infringe trademarks.

04Your content

You own the messages, files and other content you post ("Your Content"). To run the Service, you grant BlobChat a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, process, transmit and display Your Content only as needed to operate, secure and improve the Service — for example, delivering a message to the people in a channel or generating an image thumbnail. The licence ends when Your Content is deleted, except for copies that others have already received or that remain temporarily in backups.

You are responsible for Your Content and must have the rights to post it. We do not pre-screen content, but we may remove content or restrict accounts that violate these Terms or the law.

05Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • break the law, or help others to break it;
  • violate the Community Guidelines — harassment, hate, threats, sexual content involving minors, doxxing, spam, scams or malware are never allowed;
  • infringe other people's intellectual-property, privacy or publicity rights;
  • attack, overload, scan or reverse-engineer the Service, bypass rate limits, permissions or bans, or access accounts and data that are not yours;
  • scrape the Service or collect other users' data without their consent;
  • use the Service to send unsolicited advertising or mass messages.

06Servers and moderation

Anyone can create a server. If you own or moderate one, you are responsible for running it within these Terms: set clear rules, use the moderation tools (BlobChat provides roles, channel permissions, AutoMod, word filters, slowmode, timeouts, kicks, bans and an audit log), and act on reports from your members.

Server owners may remove members or content in their server at their discretion. We may step in — including removing a server — when a server is dedicated to activity that breaks these Terms or the law.

07Bots, webhooks and the API

  • Bots must be created in the Developer Portal and authenticate with their bot token. Do not automate regular user accounts ("self-bots").
  • Respect rate limits and the permissions a server grants your bot. Request only the permissions you need.
  • Tell server admins what data your bot collects and why, keep it secure, and delete it on request or when your bot is removed.
  • Keep tokens and webhook URLs secret; regenerate them if they leak. We may revoke tokens that are abused or compromised.
  • The API may change. We will try to avoid breaking changes, but cannot guarantee backward compatibility.

08Apps and updates

The Windows and Android apps update themselves automatically to keep you secure and compatible. The Android app is currently distributed as an .apk file directly from our website, not through Google Play, and the Windows installer is not yet code-signed, so your system will warn you before installing. Download the apps only from https://blobchat.online/download, check the SHA-256 checksum shown there, and install them only if you are comfortable doing so — the browser version needs no installation at all.

The BlobChat source code is released under the MIT License; that licence covers the code. The BlobChat name, logo and the Nubi mascot remain our brand and may not be used in a way that suggests a fork or another service is the official BlobChat.

09Availability and changes

We work hard to keep BlobChat running, but the Service is provided free of charge and without a guaranteed uptime. Features may be added, changed or removed. We may suspend the Service for maintenance or for security reasons, and we may discontinue it — in that case we will try to give reasonable notice so you can export your data.

10Suspension and termination

You can stop using BlobChat and delete your account at any time in Settings → My Account.

We may warn you, remove content, limit features, or suspend or terminate your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if required by law, or to protect users or the Service. Where reasonable we will tell you why and give you a way to appeal by writing to [email protected].

12Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We are not responsible for content posted by users, servers, bots or webhooks, or for third-party sites you reach through links.

13Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, BlobChat and its contributors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Because the Service is free, our total liability for any claim is limited to EUR 50 (or the equivalent in your currency).

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer under the mandatory laws of the country where you live.

14Disputes

If something goes wrong, please contact us first — most issues can be solved quickly. These Terms are governed by the law of the country where the operator of BlobChat is established, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence, whose courts you may also use.

15Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. The "Last updated" date shows the current version. For significant changes we will notify you in the app before they take effect; if you keep using the Service after that, you accept the new Terms. If you do not agree, you can delete your account.
